N.Z. Lamb Is Easier
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON Jan. 28. After a good start on Monday, trading on London’s Smithfield market became slow for most commodities, according to Meat Board market information service. There was a slow inquiry for New Zealand mutton, with improved inquiry for ewes. The main grade of hoggets (49/561b) was quoted at 15d per lb, wethers at 14d per lb. Ewes were quoted at 12d per lb, an increase of a farthing per lb from last week. New Zealand lamb prices were affected and the seasonal decline continued. Quotations for the mam grade (prime 29/361b) were down by three-farthings per lb from last week. N.Z. Reserves Rise Again (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Jan. 28. Net overseas assets of the New Zealand banking system on January 19 were £51.0m, compared with £50.0m on January 12 and £66.5m on January 20 last year. These figures were announced today by the Reserve Bank.
