MAUGHAM’S ESTATE
Secretary Left £50,000 (N.Z.P.A Reuter —Copyright) LONDON, Jan. 27. W. Somerset Maugham left £50,000 to the man he once unsuccessfull tried to adopt as his son. Mr Alan Searle, his secretary-companion for more than 30 years, also received the contents of Maugham’s villa on the French Riviera. The writer died there last December, aged 91. The villa itself goes to Maugham’s daughter, Lady Glendevon. Informed sources said 61-year-old Mr Searle would also get during his lifetime the income from the copyright of Maugham's novels, plays and short stories. After Mr Searle’s death, it will go to a fund to help struggling writers.
