SUGAR IN BRITAIN
Reduction In Surcharge . (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) LONDON, Jan. 20. Commercial buyers of sugar in Britain are to benefit from a reduction in world prices, the Ministry of Agriculture announced today. The reduction is made possible because the Sugar Board, which buys in bulk on behalf of the industry, has been able to buy cheaper on the world market. When world prices increased just over a year ago, the board called on buyers to pay an additional surcharge of £1 15s per cwt. In May and October last year, when world prices were favourable to buyers, the surcharge was reduced, but it was restored to £1 15s in November. Now, world market conditions are again favourable to buyers, said the Ministry and the Sugar Board has decided that as from tomorrow the surcharge can be reduced to £1 12s per cwt. < Business Personal Mr M. F. Strutt, a director of Dalgety and New Zealand Loan in London has been appointed vice-chairman.— (P.A.)
