CHANGES IN POSTAGE
Parcels From N.Z. (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Jan. 20. Postage rates for some outward surface and air parcels are to be amended from February 1. The Postmaster-General (Mr Scott) said today the changes had become necessary because of revised transit and terminal charges made by other postal administrations and increased costs incurred in handling overseas parcels within New Zealand. In addition, to comply with the provisions of the Universal Postal Union Parcel Post Agreement, to which New Zealand is a signatory, the limit of weight for surface parcels in the first weight step would be reduced from 31b to 21b. Mr Scott also said the maximum weight for parcels addressed to Afghanistan and Nepal would be increased from 111 b to 221 b from February 1. Although in most cases the postage rates were increased, there were also some reductions, Mr Scott said.
