Otago Easily Beaten
The Canterbury women's cricket second XI did not require the second day of its match against Otago to win the Mary Mason Shield. Canterbury won by an innings and 29 runs and required only four batsmen. Otago was dismissed for 45 and 36 to which Canterbury replied with 110 for four wickets.
The opening bowlers, D. McRae and L. Hawes, took Otago's first innings apart. Mcßae took six for 15 off 15 overs and Hawes two for 14 off 14.4 overs. The other two batsmen were run out. After Hawes had taken three early wickets, A. Beardsley and L. Ashby ran through Otago's second innings. The Canterbury opener, D. Donaldson, returned the game's highest score with 42 and the other batsmen contributed useful scores. Otago's only penetrative bowlers were the captain. C. Geekie, and S. Fitzpatrick, who each took two wickets.
