Test Shows Fault In Electra’s Wing

AUCKLAND, January 21.
Eighty-one passengers on an AucklandMelbourne flight tomorrow will be delayed for 12} hours because an ultrasonic test has revealed a fault in the wing of their Air New Zealand Electra.
“There is no question of safety involved,” said a spokesman for the airline. “The flight could take place as scheduled but if this is done we could be involved in major overhaul later.” The ultra-sonic equipment had indicated corrosion on a portion of the wing skin. The 81 passengers, among them a group of Australian scouts, will now take off at 9 p.m. instead of 8.30 a.m.
The withdrawal of the Electra will affect other services. The Wellington-Sydney-Wel-lington flight on both Sunday and Monday will be delayed by about 13 hours. The Electra is expected to be back in service by Wednesday.
