HAD FIRST WIN

15,600gn Filly From N.Z. (N.Z. Press Assn. —Copyright) SYDNEY. Risque, the highest priced horse ever to leave New Zealand, had her first win in the three-year-old Maiden Handicap at a twilight meeting at Randwick on Wednesday. The filly, who cost 15,600gns as a yearling, won £540 for her win. Risque started at 10/1 after an amazing betting drift. Risque is by Wilkes, a French sire now standing at stud in New South Wales, and is out of the champion New Zealand mare, Pique. She is owned by Mr R. Porter, of Feilding, and is trained at Randwick by Maurice McCarten. She had raced only once previously: finishing eleventh at Canterbury in December. Risque won by eight lengths 1 from the 7/4 favourite Aron’s I Choice with Happy Spree j (12/1), half a length away; third. Risque was first away and I led throughout, drawing right; away at the furlong post and; spread-eagling the field. She; ran the six furlongs in Imin Usee, a remarkably good time for a maiden. Rubbish Fire.—A small fire in rubbish in the store of Mason Struthers, Ltd, off Struthers lane, at 12.26 p.m. yesterday damaged containers only. Three engines from headquarters answered the call.
