TROUBLE IN HOOF

Kandy Still Sore “The Press’’ Special Service AUCKLAND. Kandy, which pulled up very lame after the Auckland Cup, is still sore, according to Mr B. Kennedy, the stable foreman of G. W. Smith’s stable at Takanini.

“We X-rayed him a couple yesterday, “and it showed that yesterday,” and it showed that all the trouble is in his hoof."

A five-year-old gelding, Saltan, which was purchased by Mr M. J. Moodabe, of Auckland, at the dispersal sale of Sir Stanley Goosman’s racing stock at Hamilton last October, is to leave by boat from Tauranga later this week for Sydney. The gelding will join T. J. Smith’s stable.

Saltan, a big brown, by Pride Of Kildare from Mokoia, by Sajakeda from Te Hinemoa, has been with D. J. Arnott at Te Aroha throughout his career. This season he has had four starts for a second, in the Franklin mile behind Computer at Pukekohe. Although he has only recently graduated to open company Saltan should do very well in Sydney over the longer distances. Arnott has handled him very patiently since his two-year-old days and he has been given every possible chance to develop fully.
