DECEMBER WEATHER
| Extremes In City December was a month of weather extremes in Christchurch. There were 14 days when the temperature exceeded 70 degrees—the highest being 90 degrees on December 15—and there were several cold nights, especially towards the end of the month, with a frost of 2J degrees on December 18. But the month, generally, was warmer than usual, says the Meteorological Office at Christchurch Airport. Rainfall in Christchurch was exceptionally light. Rain fell on three days only—the lowest number of rain days since 1916, when there were two. Conditions were very dry towards the end of the month, evaporation exceeding rainfall by Bin. Apart from Christmas week, the month was sunny, being 22 hours above the average for December. Winds were generally I stronger, especially towards! the end of the month.
