Boris Spassky, of Russia, i moved into the lead in the ■ international chess congress premier tournament at Hastings on Tuesday when he beat Helmut Pfleger. of West Germany. The Soviet grandmaster. Evgeny Vasukov, suffered his first defeat in the tournament when he met the 23-year-old Rumanian grandmaster, Florin Gheorghiu. The second shock result of the sixth-round matches played on Tuesday was the victory of Wolfgang Uhlmann. aged 28, of East Germany, over Jugoslavia's Svetozar' Gligoric. i Leaders when play started; (yesterday: Spassky (U.S.S.R.) [5 points, Gligoric (Jugoslavia), Uhlmann (East Germany) 41 points, Pfleger (West Germany), Vasukov (U.S.S.R.) 4 points, Gheorghiu (Rumania) 3 points. i
