SHIFTING CARGO

Danger Of Explosion

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) HOLYHEAD (North Wales), January 5. The crew of a Dutch coaster wallowing in the gaie-lashed Irish Sea battled for two hours early today to secure a shifting cargo of drums containing a high-explosive chemical.

The drums, stored as deck cargo aboard the 499-ton motor vessel Ingkabir bound from Liverpool to Cork, Irish Republic, began to move when the coaster was about 20 miles south-west of Holyhead.

Holyhead coast guards and lifeboats were alerted after the ship sent out urgent distress signals saying: “Dangerous deck cargo on the move—al) ships keep clear—danger of explosion.” But the Ingkabir cancelled her distress messages two hours later, saying the deck cargo had been secured.
