TROTTING ELIMINATIONS AT ADDINGTON

Thirteen horses failed to receive a start on either night of the Canterbury Park Trotting Club’s summer meeting at Addington Raceway tomorrow and Monday. The club’s action in eliminating four horses from both the £3050 Canterbury Park Trotting Cup and the £llOO Stewards’ Free-for-All seems most severe. The horses affected are Astralight Snow Globe, Doctor Kyle and Uteena. Snow Globe has now been eliminated from five successive races at Addington Raceway since the beginning of November. Her only start during the period was at Ashburton last Monday. There the club eliminates by ballot, but the Canterbury Park club eliminates after considering the form shown by the horses during the season. Although it is appreciated that the club faced great difficulties in deciding which horses should be eliminated, few will agree with the decision to eliminate the four horses mentioned from both races especially as trotters receive so few opportunities. Uteena, too, has had her share of eliminations. She was elminiated from three of four races at the cup meeting, but received a run at the New Brighton and Ashburton meetings earlier in the month. She trotted a most encouraging race for a close sixth at Ashburton, beating several

horses which have received starts on both nights of the meeting next week-end. Doctor Kyle finished eighth at Ashb.'rton, making up a lot of ground. He is no| veryconsistent, but his peak efforts fall little below the best in his class. Astralight has raced well in two starts at the Auckland Cup meeting and hardly deserves to miss both starts at the meeting. Philonian, Carina Star Golden Sari, Gold Maru, Waltz Away, Good Luck, Loyal Hanover, Maggie Spangler and Seafield Scott were eliminated from both nights of the meeting, and Bonnieburn. Cloudage and Fox Able were eliminated from their only race at the meeting. There is a growing feeling among some owners that they are being treated unf irly by the three Christchurch clubs by being eliminated time after time with their horses The Canterbury Park eliminations for tomorrow and Monday give added strength to that claim.
