FRUIT FOR ITALY
Otago Peaches And Apricots
(N.Z. Press Association)
DUNEDIN, Dec. 30
Peaches and apricots from Central Otago will be on sale in Italian markets during the next few weeks. The fruit would be sent to Italy by air in about eight shipments arranged by the Fruitgrowers’ Federation, the Otago director of the federation (Mr J. Hainsworth) said today. The first shipment, which would comprise peaches, will leave Central Otago next week. A second consignment will be sent out next week, and four more consignments of apricots will be made in midJanuary. There was a possibility that late peaches would also be flown to Italy, said Mr Hainsworth.
The arrangements being made by the federation are a direct result of two trial shipments to Italy last season.
