AIRLIFT OF EGGS

Move To Ease Shortage

(N.Z. Press Association)

WELLINGTON, Dec. 30.

Eggs will be airlifted to Wellington from Blenheim to ease a shortage. The marketing executive officer for the Poultry Board (Mr R. Cowdrey) said this morning the Wellington shortage had been caused mainly by transport problems. It would probably last until January 10, when distribution channels would be back to normal.

Eggs had been ordered from as far south as Invercargill and also from the Bay of Plenty and Hawke’s Bay, he said.

Mr Cowdrey said the shortage was only in Wellington. Sales in New Zealand last week were a record of almost 750,000 dozen.
