Stormvogel Succeeds
(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) HOBART. The South African yacht, Stormvogel took line honours in the Sydney-Hobart yacht race when she crossed the finishing line at 7.30 a.m. yesterday. The Italian Navy yawl, Corsaro 11, lost its navigator overboard early today. A wave swept the navigator, Lieutenant-Commander F. Barbalonga, into the sea at 6.30 a.m. and Corsaro immediately radioed for help. Six yachts converged on her position and he was picked up by Corroborec after 20 minutes.
Stormvogel crossed the finishing line at Castray Esplanade, Hobart, at 7.30 and 9 seconds.
Stormvogel’s time for the 640-mile course was three days, 20 hours, 30 minutes, 9 seconds, compared with the record for the course set by Ondine in 1962 of three days, three hours, 36 minutes, 16 seconds.
