f.V.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. Canterbury fought back Into Brabin Cup consideration by beating Otago, but Auckland and Wellington played a draw on the fourth day of the national under-20 cricket tournament at Cornwall Park.
With the last round of matches beginning at Eden Park this morning, Wellington and Auckland lead with eight points, Canterbury has six and Otago two.
Today, Auckland will play Canterbury and Wellington will play Otago. Rain on the first day and tight, defensive bowling by Wellington on the second day, made a draw almost certain in the Auckland v. Wellington match yesterday.
The Canterbury captain, C. L. Bull, scored a fine 87 to ensure success for his team in its chase for 164 runs scored by Otago. Scores:
Canterbury 178 for five (C. L. Bull 87, P. Wallace 40 not out, P. Stubbings 19; G. Ashby three for 36, M. Muir two for 48) beat Auckland 164 (B. Freeman 58, A. Bartlett 33, M. Allen 25; C. L. Broad five for 46, C. Kirk three for 10).
.Auckland 195 for seven wickets declared (G. Thorne 40, C. Ussher 36, R. C. Hooton 54 not out, G. E. Vivian 31; R. Robinson three for 36) drew with Wellington 139 for seven (R. W. Smith 61. B. D. Smith 24; G. Vivian four for 37, J. Kasper three for 36).
