2000 Expected At College Jubilee

More than 2000 are expected to attend the jubilee celebrations of St Andrew’s College, in March. Already more than 1500 firm registrations have been made, and more are coming in every day.

Every function in a week of celebrations seems likely to set new records in a college notable for the support it receives from old boys, parents and friends. Events have been arranged to cater for all groups. The programme is:— Wednesday. March 9: Inspection of the college: opening ceremony and handing over of the assembly hallgymnasium building given by supporters to mark the occasion; cocktail party.

Thursday, March 10: Openday displays of work; cricket golf, and bowling matches: old boys’ dinner and women’s function.

Friday, March 11: College athletic sports: jubilee ball; college opera.

Saturday, March 12: Roll call and reunion; garden party; college opera. Sunday, March 13: Communion services; open-air service at college; thanksgiving in college chapel. Monday, March 14: Visit to college’s mountain lodge in Castle Hill basin; college opera.

Because of the large numbers the college has booked the largest buildings available in the city—Cowles stadium for the cocktail party, dinner, and ball, and others for remaining indoor events.

Principals in the organising committees are the chairman of the board of governors (Mr W. J. Mac Gibbon), the rector (Mr I. T. Galloway), the bursar (Mr G.A. M. Hilson) who will fill several roles. He is organiser of the celebrations, secretary of Parent-Teacher Association, and was recently elected president of the Old Boys’ Association for the jubilee year.
