FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—A weak ridge of high pressure lies over New Zealand but a depression centred near Tasmania is moving eastwards. Forecast: Canterbury.—Moderate north-easterlies predominating about the coast; north-wester-lies, strong at times, inland; fine and warm but showers in the Alps. Marlborough.—North-westerlies, strong about the Sounds, fresh elsewhere; fine and warm.
Nelson. —Fresh northerlies. Cloudy with a few showers about the ranges; mild. West Coast. —Moderate northerly winds predominating; cloudy with occasional showers; more general rain tonight in the south; mild.
Outlook. —A period of rain in all districts. CHRISTCHURCH READINGS
