Obituary MR ROYCE SOANES
Mr Royce Soanes, who was a member of the Christchurch Stock Exchange for about 30 years, died suddenly at his home on Wednesday. He was 56. During World War II he served as an officer with the 3rd Division of the 2nd N.Z.E.F. in the Pacific. Mr Soanes was on the council of the North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society for many years, and was a founder of the Canterbury Anglers’ Club. He was chairman of the Stock Exchange for one term, and was a member of the Rotary Club for many years.
He was educated at the Christchurch Boys’ High School, where he was very prominent in sport. He was an excellent Rugby player, winning a place in the school’s first fifteen. As a swimmer, he also represented the school, and at the same time was a member of the first eleven. He was a fine sprinter as well. Mr Soanes leaves a widow, a son, and a daughter.
M.P.A. Delegation.—The South Island delegation to the Canberra '66 Conference to be held by Moral Re-armament will leave Christchurch on Monday. Seventy New Zealanders will attend the first section of the conference from January 4 to January 16.
