Final Humiliation For “Worst Soccer Team"
(N.Z. Press Assn. —Copyright) LONDON.
The worst soccer team in Britain has got another hiding—from a team of girls,, the “Daily Mirror” reported.
It was the most humiliating defeat yet for Hillingdon Tyre and Battery, the never-say-die team from Poole, Dorset.
And they were so desperate for a win. . . . They ended last season with the title of “worst team in the country” after losing to a rival claimant, Wimborne St Giles. 90 GOALS, 15 GAMES
This season they have conceded more than 90 goals in 15 matches. So out went the challenge to Shaftesbury Ladies F.C. of Dorset for one game. Hillingdon thought it could win. But the girls ran off the field at Bournemouth, 7-5 winners.
Hillingdon was just not getting the breaks, the “Daily
Mirror” said. To start with its opponents turned up two girls short, so Hillingdon sportingly lent them its rightback, Brian Blake. Then there was the crowd, barracking them with cries of
“Kiss him—it’ll slow him down.” The Hillingdon captain, Brian Watkins, said after the match; “We’ll try to live this down, and go on fighting for a victory.”
