Mills Sets Two Records
(N.Z. Press Association) ROTORUA. The 19st Auckland field events specialist, L. R. Mills, shattered the national shot put and discus records at a floodlit meeting in Rotorua. In the shot Mills reached 62ft 3Jin, beating a 61ft Bin effort earlier in the year which has yet to be ratified. Against his own record of 179 ft 3jin in the discus, Mills recorded a best throw of 185 ft 3in. He also beat the record with two other throws of 183 ft 9}in and 180 ft lOjin. Another highlight of the meeting, which was held on a soft track, was the fine two miles win of J. L. Davies, in his fastest time of Bmin 48sec. M. Ryan (Tokoroa) was second in Bmin 51sec and A. Parkinson (Gisborne) third.
