Advice For Shareholders
The sixth edition of “Equity Investment” has been published. This 250-page book seeks to explain the principles governing sound investment on the share market. In addition to the usual Information on all companies listed on the New Zealand Stock Exchange, the book now gives a summarised balance sheet for each firm. Also, where available, turn-over, gross profit and overdraft figures are included. Investors, particularly novices, are offered information on the choice of shares, loan stocks and debentures, and a list of investment axioms. Sections describe the workings of stock exchanges, brokerage rates, evaluation of investments, and give a useful glossary of investment terms. Earning ratios on capital are shown for the last two years. Assets backing the priceearning ratios are other features.
A chapter on unit trusts, investment clubs and mutual funds may be of considerable Interest to the growing numbers of people who find these •n accessible and simple form of business.
Business Personal Mr J. M. Robertson, finance manager and secretarv of B.A.L.M. Paints (N.Z.) Ltd., has been appointed Auckland manager of the company. He will take up his new position early in the new year. Mr Robertson succeeds Mr J. R. Templer, who has been appointed manager of the distributing division at the parent company’s head office in Melbourne.
