Broadhurst Wins Golf By Two
J. D. Broadhurst (Russley) followed his fine display in the recent Wills tournament by winning the Christmas golf tournament which ended at Shirley yesterday.
Broadhurst's four-round total of 301 gave him a twostroke margin over I. D. Dobson (Waitikiri), with P. J. Amos (Christchurch) a further three strokes away in third place. Dobson lost his first-day
lead with a third round score of 80.
Broadhurst’s golf yesterday was the essence of consistency and his morning 73 put him two shots in front. In the afternoon he faltered briefly, but he had a birdie at the long sixteenth and two pars for a 76 and left Dobson a very difficult task. Dobson, however, earned himself a fine chance with excellent golf which left him three under the card with five holes to play. He could then afford to drop one stroke, and still win. But he lost three with his
7 at the par-4 fourteenth and he dropped another at the last hole. Broadhurst’s was a meritorious win, for he kept his game under firm control in the boisterous winds which persisted during the tournament. Scores: — SENIOR 301: J. R.
