“SICKENING SMELL”
City Council Dump
A Bexley resident said last evening that he and his family had to spend “a good portion of Christmas” away from home because of a “sickening smell” from the City Council dump in Rowan avenue. “We haven’t had our windows open for three nights,” the man said. “We’ve been going out during the day to dodge it.” He thought the smell came from putrefying matter dumped some time ago, and recently uncovered by a bulldozer In daylight, vapour could be seen rising from the dump “It’s a horrible stink,” he said. “It’s all down through the Bexley area—quite a number of people have been complaining about it. “The flies are just terrible down here.” At present he was having to buy a can of fly spray every week. “A lot of the neighbours think the City Council should supply it to us free,” he said.
