Iron Maiden Might Win At Westport Today

Iron Maiden should gain an overdue win in either the Pain I landicap or the Roche Handicap, the races for trotters on the first day of the Westport Trotting Club’s annual meeting today.

Iron Maiden, a member of F. R. Bebbington’s Ashburton team, has been placed in her two starts this season. She was most impressive when she made up ground for fourth at Rangiora at her most recent appearance.

Rhonda, Houtman and Resistor’s Sister appeal most of the others.

Considerable interest will be taken in the initial race appearances of the three-year-old Copper Wire and Coronet Peak. Copper Wire, which will be bracketed with Resistor’s Sister is a gelding by Larnie Scott ' from Eyerim. while Coronet Peak is a fine filly by Court Martial from a wellperformed trotter in Coronet Lass.

The T.A.B. double will be run on the Westport Handicap and the President’s Handicap. An on-course double will be run on the Pain Handicap and the Scanlon Handicap. There were some heavy | showers in Westport yesterday. Further unsettled weather is forecast. If there are 1 further showers this morning, the track will be on the soft side.
