Great Adios Goes Well
"The Press’* Special Service AUCKLAND. Great Adkis, the north’s main hope in the Auckland Trotting Cup tomorrow night, showed a crowd of about 2000 at Alexandra Park yesterday morning that he was in grand shape for the big two-miler. Great Adios led other cup> candidates. Smokeover and; Glenurquhart. over a mile and i a half, the last half-mile in a dashing 59 4-ssec and a quarter in 29 2-ssec. The full distance! took 3min 24 3-ssec. Great Adios, Smokeover and; Glenurquhart were the only cup; candidates which competed in; the special trials organised by the Auckland Trotting Club. Earlier Garcon d’Or and Gay Robin were given light tasks.! Disband went stylishly over a| mile and a half and Avante did; a useful two miles. Driven by her co-trainer. J.}, Grant. Disband was under a I good hold all the way. She I speeded up after passing the ’ mile in 2min 17 3-ssec and came; the last half in Imin 2sec. The! last quarter was done in 31sec.
Disband is very fit and she is likely to make a bold showing tomorrow night.
Avante (Adamson) was partnered by Free Globe (Carmichael). There was little between them at the finish after they had run the last half-mile in Imin 3 sec. and quarter in 31 2-ssec. The full distance took 4min 38 2-ssec.
Control (Donaldson), which is also engaged in the Bridgens Free-for-All, broke twice in a workout over a mile and a half. He tangled at the start and nearing the home turn.
