BANDON IMPRESSIVE AWAPUNI WORKER

"The Press" Special Service PALMERSTON NORTH. Bandon ran a good final trial for the Manawatu Cup when he worked impressively to beat Goldtone over six furlongs at Awapunl on Saturday morning. Narbada, another cup candidate, ran a good time for seven furlongs, and the Takanini visitor, Royal Sheen, worked well within himself with Dark Chick.

Among the sprinters none Impressed more than Plantation and Bywon. They were working keenly at the end of five furlongs. Work took place in light drizzle but the track was in first class order and should remain so for Monday unless there is heavy rain. Working on the Inside trial with R. W. Taylor In the saddle Bandon drew away to beat Goldtone decisively at the end of six furlongs in Imin 16sec, the last three in 37 3-ssec. Might, whose work this week has been of a high standard, reeled off six furlongs in Imin 14sec, the last three in 38sec. This was a brilliant effort. Might will be hard to beat in the Awapuni Stakes on the third day.

Prince d'Amour, which may gallop between races today, took Imin 2lsec for five furlongs, the last three in 37sec. If he races up to his best the Great Northern Foal Stakes should be at his mercy. On the course proper much interest was taken in the Takanini visitors and they did not disappoint. Royal Sheen was going well with Dark Chick at the end of seven furlongs in Imin 35 3-ssec, the last three in 39 3-ssec. Royal Sheen is apparently never noted for his track deeds but his work this time was most satisfactory. Bywon, another of Cameron's team, looked good when working with Plantation, which worked better than earlier in the week. They finished together over five furlongs and Bywon did well as he lost four lengths on the turn when he clipped a marker peg. Five furlongs took Imin 7 1-5 sec, the last three in 40 l-ssec. Bywon is evidently close to the good form which won him a high ranking as a two-year-old. Narbada ran seven furlongs In Imin 32sec, the last three in 41 sec. Opium joined in at the five. Narbada went fast early but was In a lazy mood. It was still a god cup trial and she will undoubtedly parade at her very best.
