Few Accidents In City

Until late last evening only one road death had been reported in the Christchurch area during the Christmas period. There were several accidents causing minor injury, but breakdown services reported that the week-end had been very quiet.

The breakdown service reported that Friday evening was their busiest time. Christmas Day was quiet, with a few calls, and yesterday was

the quietest day of all. They had expected a far greater demand. Struck Pole.—Michael John Quinn, of Carmen road, was admitted to the Princess Margaret Hospital with concussion and abrasions after the motorcycle he was riding had struck a pole at the intersection of Armagh street and Park terrace about 7 p.m. on Friday. Mr Quinn, who was discharged from hospital on Christmas Day, was knocked unconscious in the accident.

; Collision.—Neils W. ChrisI tensen, of 1 Chancellor street, was admitted to the Princess Margaret Hospital with head injuries after his motor-cycle and a car had collided at the intersection of Prestons and Marshland roads about 2.25 I p.m. on Friday. He was dis- ! charged from Hospital on ■ Christmas Day. Arm Injuries.—About 3 p.m on Friday, Alexander Ward, of 223 Shortland street, suffered arm and leg injuries in a collision at the intersection of Woodham road and Gloucester street. He was treated at the Christchurch Hospital and discharged. Head Injury.—Mr R. Combe, of 77 Amberley crescent, was discharged from the Christchurch Hospital after being treated for a head injury suffered in a collision at the intersection of Colombo and Canon streets at 6.50 p.m on Friday.

Motor-cyclists Hurt.—John Sloane, who fell off his motorcycle at the intersection of Cranford street and Edgeware road about 7.35 p.m. on Friday, was treated at the

.Christchurch Hospital for leg injuries and was discharged, as were Charles L. Broad, of 93 Mandeville street, who suffered leg injuries when he fell off his motor-cycle at Amberley about -11.45 p.m. on Friday, and Edmond Wickes, of 16 Victors road, who suffered knee injuries when his motor-scooter was involved in a collision with a car at the intersection of Tuam and Madras streets at 12.45 a.m. on Friday. Cars Collide. —When two cars collided at the intersection of River road and Banks avenue about 12.55 p.m. on Saturday, three persons suffered minor injuries. Alan George Fordham. of 79 Bridge street, suffered arm injuries, Julie Fordham, of the same address, head injuries, and Hazel Leonora Fordham, of the same address, head and leg injuries. All were treated at the Christchurch Hospital and discharged.

Two Injured.—Trevor Russell Stokes, of 16 Gresham avenue, was treated for arm injuries and sent home after two cars had collided in Butterfield avenue about 10 a.m on Saturday. Sharon Stokes of the same address, was treated for head injuries and shock and was sent home.

Struck by Car.—Joseph Me Laughlan, of the Forest Service. Gore, was treated at the Christchurch Hospital for minor injuries and discharged after he had been struck by a car al the intersection' of Kilmore and Victoria streets about 2.50 p.m yesterday.
