HAT-TRICK ATTEMPT Brabin Cup Matches
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. G. E. Vivian, the New Zealand test bowler, will be attempting to lead Auckland to its third successive vic- ! tory in the Brabin Cup when the nation"! under-20 cricket tournament begins today. In the last two years Canterbury has defeated Auckland on the first innings of the final match, but earlier wins over Wellington and Otago had given Auckland sufficient points to win the tournaments.
Auckland and Canterbury have again been drawn to meet in the final round. This match will he played at Eden Park on Friday and Saturday. Canterbury again has a strong team. Stubbings was the top batsman in the tournament last season with 281 runs, including a century against Auckland.
R. M. Gearry returns after a season in the Plunket Shield, while C. L. Bull and C. L. Broad are other wellperformed batsmen, and D. G Trist and A. R. Hounsell are a pair of fast bowlers.
Otago has R L. Murdoch, the opening batsman, who scored 199 runs in first-class cricket last season.
