AUCKLAND, Dec. 26.
A nine-year-old boy’ who climbed from the lift into the shaft at the Auckland Museum was rescued by a St. John Ambulance officer today.
The boy. Danny Tutnata, son of Mr B. Tumata, of Semple street, Huntly, who is on holiday in Auckland, drove the lift to the top floor but could not open the outer door on the landing. "He was clinging to a bracket supporting one of the lift runners.” said the ambulance driver, Mr R. D. Bolton.
“I was a bit worried he might let go before I could get to him.” Mr Bolton climbed through a manhole in the floor of the
lift on to another bracket and supported the boy while a technician lowered the lift past them. They then climbed on top of the lift and were lowered to a doorway.
