6 SKIERS KILLED
Cable Car Fails
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) MONT DORE (Central France), Dec. 26. French officials today were investigating how a mountain cable car burst open above the Valley of Hell near Mont Dore yesterday, killing six passengers and injuring
12 others. All were French winter sport holiday-makers. About 20 of the 49 occupants were thrown out after the front of the car gave way when it jerked to a halt after a power failure. The car was only a few yards from the mountain top station when the disaster happened. Passengers were hurled against the aluminium wall. As it gave way, some tumbled out and fell screaming on to jagged snow-covered rocks 60ft below. Some slithered 300 ft down the icy slopes.
