BOMBS AND SHOOTING
Santo Domingo Christmas
(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) SANTO DOMINGO, Dec. 25. The rattle of machine-guns and roar of bombs echoed through streets in this strifetorn Santo Domingan capital today.
Heavy firing, the worst for a week, began shortly after midnight and continued until dawn.
An American military spokesman said none of the fire was directed at American troops. Bombs destroyed a hardware store and a cement factory on Christmas Eve and the fires they started raged unchecked through the night. Police reported the number of terrorist victims this week rose to seven during the night with the discovery of another, unidentified man shot to death on the city’s streets.
