CHRISTMAS PATROL

Ships of the Royal New Zealand and Royal Australian Navies serving with the Far East Fleet volunteered to take over the Christmas Day security patrols off Singapore and Malaysia. While they were at sea an equivalent number of Royal Navy ships spent the day in port, enabling officers and ratings to be with their wives and children ashore.
New Zealand was represented by the mineswee; t H.M.N.Z.S. Santon, which is commanded by Lieutenant L. J. Tempero, of Christchurch.
