Fire In Booth

A fire was reported in a telephone booth on the Main North road, near the Waimakariri bridge, about 3.20 a.m. yesterday. Detectives found the telephone book Had been set alight, and the telephone handset had been pulled off and was lying on the floor. Three youths were seen nearby just before the fire, the police say. Instead, she found a grower advertising black currants for sale and telephoned at 6.15 a.m. asking whether pickers were wanted.
