“Go Home By Taxi"

fN.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Dec. 20. Transport and road safety officials fear that drinking at office parties will cause many accidents this week. “Go home by taxi or publie transport if you have been drinking at the office party." the secretary of the Road Safety Association (Mr F. J. Quirke) advised today. The Commissioner of Transport (Mr R. J. Polascbek) joined with Mr Quirke in issuing a warning. A few drinks was all that was needed to affect the reactions and make a motorist

a definite danger in heavy Christmas traffic, Mr Quirke said.

After a few drinks the average person was inclined to “give it a go.” His overconfidence made him think he was driving better than be actually was. M. Quirke appealed to all people attending office parties to leave their cars at home.

“Remember not one of the people involved in accidents ever expected to be the victim or the cause of an accident," be said. Mr Foiaschek said that there were two dangers facing drinkers at parties this week. There was the experienced drinker who thought he could drive home safety because he was used to liquor.

This was a false assumption and there was ample medical evidence to prove this was false.

The second type was those who drank randy, if at all. They were induced in the congenial atmosphere to have a few extra. Then they drove in a condition to which they were not accustomed. In South Africa the general manager of the South African Rood Safety Council (Mr Matt Mare) said that the beat way to keep father from drinking too much at the office Christmas party was to invite the wife and children. Mr Mare thought the presence of the family would prevent the parties from baaoraing tooboisteroua, Mr Polaschek said.
