Good Batting, Bowling A fine all-round performance by R. Gunn paved the way for Darfield’s win over Hororata in the Malvern competition on Saturdey. Gun made 86 and 34 both top scores—and returned bowling figures of three for 46 and three for 18. Darfleld did not win without some anxious moments. The batsmen tried to score rather quickly and N. Rothwell reaped the harvest. One of the best bowling efforts was by the Greendale leg-spinner, J. Adams. Playing his last game before travelling overseas, Adams took 10 wickets In the match against South Melvern—five for 28 and five for 58. The young Sheffield lefthander, G. Judd, made the highest score of the day (08 against Klrwee) and his teammates, O. Clarke and D. Deans, made deep inroads with their slow bowling. Klrwee was without G. T. Wright, who is in outstanding form thia season. Sheffield 308 (G. Judd 98, L. Innes 46; R. Morris 4/116, B. Loor 3/41) beat Klrwee 206 and 66 (A. Wail 25; O. Clarke 4/12, D. Deans 3/25) outright. Greendale 184 and 53/4 (D. Adams 41 not out) beat South Malvern 109 and 124 (R. Tilson 50, O. Stuart 28; J. Adams 5/58, C. Chapman 2/8) outright. Darfleld 356/3 declared <R. Gunn 86, D. Shaw 58. R. Farrant 50 not out; P. Shaw 2/75) and 57/8 (Gunn 24; N. Rothwell 6/27) beat Hororata 244 and 64 (E. H. Richards 16; T. Redfern 5/33, Gunn 3/18).
