VICTORIA LEAGUE
The Victoria League held its annual “Commonwealth Friendship At Home” function at Elizabeth House on Friday evening. Ninety members and guests attended. They were welcomed by the president. Lady Poison, assisted by the vicepresidents, Mesdames E. Milton, J. Toban, W. Buckhurst, and N. H. McCrostie.
Specially invited guests were: Mr and Mrs L. G. Spoonei (Royal Commonwealth Society); Mr J. K. Collins (Overseas League); Mr and Mrs C. J. Wakefield (English Speaking Union); Lieu-tenant-Colonel R. J. Moor, and Mrs Moor; Lieutenant-Com-mander C. Carl, and Mrs Carl; the deputy Mayor (Mr H. P. Smith); the British Trade Commissioner (Mr B. T. Burdett) and Mrs Burdett, the Australian Trade Commissioner for the South Island (Mr M. G. D. Coultas) and Mrs Couitas; Rear-Admiral F. E. Bakutis, commander of the United States Navy Antarctic support force, and Mrs Bakutis; Commander W. H. Withrow and Mrs Withrow; and guest speakers for the year.
