Peace Theme Of Tableau
Peace and reflection on the birth of Christ are the theme of the Christmas tableau, presented annually at “Kingslea.”
The event was ortinally part of a Christmas observation for girts and staff at the Burwood training centre, but for the last 23 years friends of the centre have been invited to share it.
“It does us all good to sit down quietly and think occasionally," said the principal (Mrs K. Ford) when welcoming guests at yesterday's presentation. “I think you will agree that the girls have captured a spirit of peace and the beauty of the Christmas story.” The tableau was set against a background of soft blue with a silver star twinkling overhead. The Virgin Mary, holding her baby, wore a blue and white gown of the period. Vivid colours were introduced by the costumes of the shepherds, the Wise Men and other visitors who came to see the Christ Child. Banked in front of the stage and at the sides were massed arrangements of flowers, giving the effect of a floral frame to a radiant picture. A Christmas tree stood glimmering at one side. A choir, dressed in white robes with red bows at the neckline, carried lighted candles into the hail then sang Christmas songs and carols while the story was being enacted on the stage. All the costumes for about 50 girts taking part in the performance were made at the centre, as was the decor. The tableau was presented on Saturday evening and
Bata ssterday after:on. About f 1 guests saw W They included members of the “Kingslea Social Club,” church groups, former trainees, many Mends of the centre and the girts. Yesterday afternoon children from the neighbourhood were also included.
