Manawatu Set Hard Task
(N.Z. Press Association) PALMERSTON NORTH. Southland’s first innings total of 245 in its Hawke Cup cricket match against Manawatu at Palmerston North could present the holder with a formidable task, especially as it was 38 for two wickets at stumps. Indifferent fielding and the inability of the Manawatu players to hold catches enabled Southland to make a respectable total.
G. D. Alabaster, who was the top scorer for Southland, was dropped three times. Scores: Southland 245 (G. D. Alabaster 48. L. D. Hollands 35. N. R. Thompson 35; Yulle 3/52). Manawatu 38/2
