23RD DAY OF STRIKE
(N Z.P.A -Reuter —Copyright) TOKYO. Dec. 19. The Japanese seamen’s strike moved into a recordbreaking twenty-third day today. The previous longest strike by the 134,000-strong Japanese Seamen’s Union was for 22 days in 1947. The second of three scheduled strike “waves” ended yesterday after an extension of five days. The third wave started today and is to last a week. About 2400 ocean-going and coastal vessels are likely to be tied up by the third wave. So far losses have been estimated to be about £l5 million The strike is for higher wages.
