HOLIDAY ADVICE TO MOTORISTS
Motorists’ main faults at all times in heavy traffic are driving too fast and driving too close. Inconsiderate drivers who travel too slowly and do not keep well to the left to let faster traffic pass also add to the hazard of holiday driving, says the Transport Department in advice to motorists over the holiday period. The safest way to travel is to drive at the speed of the traffic stream. If a slow driver is holding up a line of vehicles, cars further back should wait their turn to pass. The impatient motorist who tries to pass three or four cars at a time is a menace to everyone on the road. He actually saves very little time and endangers all other road users. Crossroads are probably the greatest danger-spots. Drivers should know the right hand rule, but they should also take extreme care and be prepared to give way if the other driver fails to do so. They should exercise considerable caution before entering main arterial roads and make allowance for a greater approach speed of other traffic than they anticipate. A driver's arind should ba on the job when drtvtag.
