YACHT RACE TO AKAROA
Council Makes Donation ,3 The Akaroa County Council han approved a donation <£ £250 to the Akaroa CruMn* Club, which is to atage an ocean yacht race from WeUington to Akaroa next month. The dub secretary (Mr J. Bevin) told the council thnt amneemente for the reception c< yacMs and crewa in Akaroa were almost completed. Starting arrangements in Wellington had been orsanlSed by the race committee with the Banks Peninsula Cruising Club and the Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club. Mr Bevin said the council’s donation would pay the cost of upgrading amenities at the Akaroa Boating Club headquarters. This included repairing and repainting the exterior by tradesmen and repairs and renovations to the interior to be undertaken by club members. The nautical adviser to the Marina Department had inspected reef and wharf lights and examined the harbour for the location of a temporary beacon which the department had asked the club to provide as an additional aid to navigation during the period of the race.
