N.Z. Sells 2443 Tons Of Casein To Holland
Though dairy farming is the most important branch of Dutch agriculture. New Zealand sent 2443 tons of casein to the Netherlands in 1963-64, according to “Export News," a monthly publication of the Department of Industries and Commerce.
The Dutch no longer produce casein, and their annual import needs are about 4000 tons. New Zealand is easily their largest supplier. Provided the taste for it can be developed, there is room for greater sales of New Zealand lamb in the Netherlands, “Export News” says. In the 1963-64 export season, 156 tons of lamb and 931 tons of mutton were shipped to the Netherlands, where there are fewer than half a million sheep.
“A good deal of beef is stripped to the Netherlands, which is also the second largest buyer of venison from New Zealand," says the publication. In. the year ended June, 1965, more than 1,500,0001 b of venison was sold there. This quantity; worth £265,255, was second only to that exported to West Germany—elightly more than 2,000,0001 b.
