STUDY OF MERGERS
Power Supply Authorities (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. Dec. 14. In an effort to prevent compulsory amalgamation of power supply authorities, the Electrical Supply Authorities’ Association next month will begin its own study of the problem. A committee of the association will make a pilot study of nine authorities between Gisborne and the Wairarapa as a preliminary to a nation-wide investigation. The president of the association, Mr A. W. Gboder, of Auckland, has told members that if the industry's attempts to find its own solution to reorganisation fail, compulsion may be used. This would not benefit the industry. He said the investigating committee would determine the economic benefits of any form of reorganisation. Draft legislation prepared by the Government for the reorganisation of the industry was unacceptable to his association.
