Armed Police Patrol Saigon
(N.Z.P.A. Keuter—Copyright) SAIGON, December 13. Armed police patrolled Saigon streets overnight after rumours that Viet Cong guerrillas planned to blow up the Defence Ministry.
Military sources said they had reports that the Viet Cong intended to plant a plastic charge in the Ministry buildings. A seven • storey United States servicemen’s billet was blown up nine days ago by Viet Cong who used cars packed with explosives. Ten people died and about 140 were injured. Last Christmas Eve the Viet Cong bombed a multistorey United States officers’ billet in the heart of Saigon,
killing two Americans and wounding 100. Local newspapers reported today that two Viet Cong girl saboteurs threw a grenade at a police station on the outskirts of Saigon on Saturday night, wounding two policemen. One of the girls was shot and the other escaped. Meanwhile heavy fighting In the southern Mekong delta, south of Saigon, appeared to have subsided today after 24 hours* savage battling which left more than 300 Viet Cong dead.
