BITUMEN EXPLODES
Tankers Burn (N.Z. Preu Auociation) AUCKLAND, December 13. Two road tankers, full of liquid bitumen, exploded Into flame at the Te Papapa yard of Morton Brown, Ltit, this afternoon. An acetylene torch, being used to cut up a tanker which was burned out a few days ago, set fire to the oil and bitumen-impregnated ground surrounding the two tankers Men used three portable fire extinguishers to fight the blaze but were unable to stop flames spreading to the tankers.
By the time the Onehunga Fire Brigade was able to get the fire under control both tankers had been burned out and damage estimated at £2500 had been done.
