Wheat Damage Compensation
In future wheat growers whose crops suffer damage which is eligible for compensation from the wheatgrowers’ compensation fund will carry only the first third of the risk instead of the first 50 per cent as in the past. The fund will carry the other twothirds.
The general manager of the Wheat Committee, Mr L. C. Dunshea, said this week that the Government had agreed to farmers’ proposals on this point, and the alteration would be applicable to crops harvested this season. Mr Dunshea said that there was a provision that no more than £30,000 should be paid out in any one season, and if claims exceeded that figure payments would be made on a pro rata basis up to £30,000.
