NUCLEAR FLEET

(NZ. Press Assn.— Copyright) MANILA, November 26. The United States Navy nuclear-powered aircraft carrier Enterprise today joined the Seventh Fleet operating off Vietnam. The Navy announcement said that it was the first time that nuclear surface ships have been deployed to the Western Pacific. Enterprise was accompanied by the nuclearpowered guided missile frigate Bainbridge. Enterprise will replace one of the conventional-powered carriers. The Defence Secretary, Mr Robert McNamara, announced the assignment of nuclear ships to the Pacific last month. Two more nuclear ships will join the Seventh Fleet next year.
