Fiji Elections Next Year

AUCKLAND, November 26. The general election under Fiji’s new constitution would be held in the latter half of next year, the Governor of Fiji (Sir Derek said in his address at tie opening of the Budget session of the Legislative Council today. He said the first step towards implementing the new constitution was being taken. A pilot Order in Council would soon be published enabling boundaries of the constituencies to be determined and electoral registers to be drawn up. He said the Registrar of Electors had already been appointed.

Scholarship Awards.— The winner of the Villa Maria Scholarship was Margaret Fagan, a pupil of St. Patrick’s School, Bryndwr. Other scholarship winners were: Shelley Randall, of St. Teresa's School, Riccarton, and Helen Troy of Our Lady of Victories School, Sockbum.
