OKINAWA ELECTION
Pro-American Party Wins (N.Z P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) TOKYO, November 22. The pro-United States Okinawa Liberal Democratic Party has maintained its majority in the increased 32 seat Ryukyu Legislature on Okinawa. The General Election, the seventh held under United States administration of the islands, was conducted with 57 candidates vying for the ballots of the 380,000 eligible voters.
The results show that there has been no substantial change in the balance of power between the Liberal Democrats, the Conservatives, and the three opposition parties. The breakdown is:—Liberal Democrats 19. Socialist Masses Party 7. Okinawa Prefectural Federation of the Japan Socialist Party 2, People's Party 1, and Independents 3.
